OUR APPROACH
A grounded, intentional approach to therapy
At GroundPoint Counseling, therapy is approached with care, structure, and respect for each person’s capacity. The work is designed to support emotional regulation, clarity, and steady change — without pressure to move faster than feels safe or sustainable.
Rather than focusing on emotional intensity or constant processing, this approach emphasizes pacing, containment, and practical support. Therapy is collaborative and intentional, guided by clinical judgment, consent, and each client’s individual needs.
Person-centered, with structure
The foundation of this work is person-centered. Therapy begins with understanding the individual — their experiences, goals, values, and nervous system responses — and building a relationship where clients feel supported and respected.
Within that relational foundation, structure is used intentionally. Structure provides clarity, predictability, and safety, especially when emotions feel overwhelming. Depending on the setting, therapy may include:
Skill-building
Open processing
Guided reflection
Or a combination of these
All work is paced to support regulation rather than overwhelm.
Skills-informed, not technique-driven
GroundPoint Counseling integrates evidence-based approaches including:
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Motivational Interviewing
Mindfulness-informed practices
These approaches are not applied rigidly. Skills and tools are introduced thoughtfully and collaboratively, in service of each client’s goals and readiness. The focus is on helping clients develop tools they can use outside of session, in real-life situations.
A group-first model for emotional regulation
Within the private practice, emotional regulation groups serve as the primary entry point for care. Groups offer a structured, contained environment where clients can learn and practice skills alongside others, without pressure to share personal history or engage in process-style group therapy.
Groups are designed to provide:
Clear structure and expectations
Shared learning
Practical, usable skills
A steady pace that supports regulation
This model allows clients to build a strong foundation before moving into deeper individual work
Individual therapy
Individual therapy within the private practice is available after completing a group. This allows for more focused, individualized work once foundational skills and a shared framework are established.
Individual sessions provide additional space for processing, exploration, and integration while continuing to strengthen emotional regulation skills over time.
For individuals who are seeking individual therapy without a group component, or for those prioritizing insurance-based care, alternative pathways are discussed openly. When appropriate, referrals to other providers or insurance-based platforms are offered to support access to care that better fits the individual’s needs.
Focus on safety, clarity, and sustainability
This work is not about quick fixes or pushing through discomfort. Therapy at GroundPoint Counseling prioritizes:
Safety
Consent
Clarity
Sustainable progress
The goal is steady, meaningful change that clients can carry into their daily lives — not emotional overwhelm or rushed outcomes.
